The Community Kids Pot Project

The Community Kids Pot Project

The Community Kids Pot project was initiated by Leonard Nkwalase in August 2014 in the township of Philippi in Cape Town, South Africa. Its aim is to provide a warm meal to over 200 children every day. The initiative is driven by volunteer engagement and is funded entirely through donations. Alongside food provision, the project also focuses on creating a safe space for the children and offering them support in their daily lives.

Over the course of three years, KALAMU was able to provide support through various fundraising efforts. The donated funds were used to regularly purchase food, as well as hygiene items such as toothbrushes, soap, and clothing for children in need. In addition to daily meals, improving the children's surroundings and creating a safe and dignified environment was a central concern.

Another important step was the purchase of tables and chairs by KALAMU. This created a space where the children could not only eat, but also learn, be creative, or simply rest. School materials such as books and pencils were also provided. Before that, many children had to sit on the floor and had little or no access to materials essential for their educational development.

These developments show that the donations received did not just offer short-term help, but also contributed to stabilizing the project in the long run. The support helped to ease the daily lives of many children in Philippi and provided them with better conditions to prepare for school.
